Description: It would be nice to have an option to enforce the author field .

This feature already exists -- set the following in config.php: 

    $EnablePostAuthorRequired = 1;

This probably needs to be documented in the cookbook (see Cookbook.RequireAuthor). --Pm

This doesn't work.

Fixed in beta7.
