Mountain or Hike Name: Barrett Mountain Approximate Time: 4.5 hours Length: 6.5 Miles Elevation Gain: 795 feet Start Location: Wapack Rd @42.773161, -71.899598 Trail Type: out and back Directions To Starting Point: From the North on 123 when 123 and 124 become one, drive .5 miles further look for a sign on the right for the Wapack Rd, park off of the highway and walk up the road past the Wapack Lodge. The trail you’re looking for starts with a yellow marker on an oak tree where the road that goes past the lodge turns left to a house. Map: http://wikimapia.org/#lat=42.77229&lon=-71.900185&z=17&l=0&m=a&v=2 Hike Details: Be sure to pay particular attention to the yellow blazes that will keep you on the Wapack trail as the first part of this hike leads through the Windblown Ski Touring Center. Be on the lookout for a sharp left turn with a ski trail that continues strait ahead. Shortly into the hike you should reach a ledge with views of the Binney ponds off in the distance. The summit of Barrett Mountain offers a clearing but no wide views, continuing along the path for bit longer will bring you to the New Ipswich Mountain which offers better views for a lunch spot. Depending on the time of you will also find blueberries here, which may make for a nice treat! For the return simply retrace your steps back to your car.
